Description
Capeline (cartwheel, body) 5″ or 6″ brim – Larger than a hood, used for hats with large brims (portrait hats, pirate hats.) Wool is 1/8″ thick.
WOOL FELT
Issue: Manufacture machinery marks on felt that are made when making wool hoods and brims and stiffener discoloration.
FYI
Hats By Lekos wool capelines and hoods are made with a special ingredient to prevent shrinking in the manufacturing process. Wool capelines and hoods made in China do not use this ingredient and therefore are more difficult to stretch and shrink since they do not use the special ingredient in their manufacturing process and they are preshrunk. Also, the Chinese use 100% type 1 wool while we use a blended combo of wools that actually make the hat pliable and easier to pull in the blocking process.
Why and How to resolve:
Ours are much easier to move and the marks are just from the machinery to make them. We don’t pre-steam them out because we don’t want shrinkage. They will come out when you block and wet or steam them. Also, we don’t trim the bottom to give you more material to work with.
Making the bit of stiffener in them COLOR EVEN would also require us to steam them. We don’t do any extra steaming to make them cosmetically acceptable. We are concerned about substance not cosmetics. When you block and steam, all will be good and the integrity of the felt will be maintained for your valued ease of blocking experience. The cosmetic fix will happen when you steam and block naturally. Your end product will be achieved easier with better results. Voila!
